Starting therapy can feel like standing at the doorway of a room you’ve never entered before—you know it might hold something valuable, but you’re not sure what to expect once you step in.

That’s why at The Sapient Sense, we begin with a 15-minute initial consultation. This conversation helps us both decide whether we’re a good fit. Not every therapist is right for every client, and that’s okay. Therapy is most effective when there’s comfort, trust, and mutual understanding

This consultation is for anyone—whether you’re meeting me as a new therapist after working with someone else, or whether this is your very first step into therapy.

If you’ve ever wondered what happens in a therapy consultation, what questions to ask, or how to prepare, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know.

What is the Initial Consultation?

  • Duration: 15 minutes (online or phone)

  • Purpose: To share what’s on your mind, ask questions, and explore if my approach suits you

  • Important Note: This is not a therapy session. Think of it as a friendly meet-and-greet before making a commitment

Many clients leave this short call with more clarity—even if they decide not to continue.

Fee Structure (Transparency Matters)

I believe in openness around fees so there are no surprises later.

  • Individual Therapy (60 min): from £100 (discounted bundles available)

  • Couples Therapy (60 min): from £130 (discounted bundles available)

  • Therapy Intensives: from £350

  • Initial Consultation (15 min): Complimentary

  • Supervision (50-60 mins): from £100

What You Can Ask in Your Consultation

This time is yours, and no question is too small. Clients often ask:

  • What therapy approach do you use?

  • How do you adapt therapy for cultural or personal needs?

  • What’s the process for booking, payments, and cancellations?

  • How much commitment is expected from me?

  • How do you ensure confidentiality?

  • Will you tell me if therapy with you isn’t the right fit?

  • Can I decide not to continue after the consultation?

  • Do you work with [specific concern or issue]?

Important Basics

Here are a few essentials to know from the start:

  • Confidentiality: Everything you share in therapy is protected by law and ethics

  • Cancellations: 24–48 hours’ notice required, otherwise the full fee applies

  • Payments: Sessions are prepaid (bank transfer or online invoice)

  • Therapy Journey: Progress looks different for everyone—there’s no one-size-fits-all

Accessibility

Therapy should feel like a space where you can express yourself fully. Sessions are available in English, Urdu/Hindi, and Punjabi to support comfort and cultural connection.

How to Prepare for Your Consultation

You don’t need to over-prepare—but reflecting on a few questions can make the most of your time:

  • What are the main concerns or struggles you’d like support with?

  • What do you hope to gain from therapy in the next 3–6 months?

  • What qualities do you feel you need in a therapist?

Even jotting down a couple of thoughts can help.

What Happens After You Book

  1. You’ll receive a confirmation email with the consultation time.

  2. If we decide to move forward, I’ll guide you through onboarding (contract, consent, payment details).

  3. You can then book your first full session and begin your therapy journey.

Simple, transparent, and no pressure.

Final Word

Your initial consultation is the first step in building a therapeutic relationship that works for you. My role is to provide a safe, culturally sensitive, and compassionate environment where you can explore your challenges without judgment.

At The Sapient Sense, I work with clients navigating anxiety, trauma, relationships, identity struggles, and the unique pressures of South Asian diaspora life in the UK. Whether you’re new to therapy or returning after past experiences, this space is here for you.
